Neurophysiological Tools for Perinatal Care: Bodywork, Herbs, and Regulation | via Perinatal Connection
Thursday February 12, 2026 12:00pm – 1:30pm on Zoom
Become a Member of Perinatal Connection for $50 annual fee to join
Speaker: Lena DeGloma
In this discussion as part of Perinatal Connection’s monthly meeting, we’ll explore how the nervous system underlies pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences — and how it shows up in us as care providers. We’ll dig into key physiology, including autonomic regulation, vagal tone, and oxytocin pathways, to understand why nervous system balance matters for both parents and professionals. Together, we’ll consider how bodywork and herbal strategies can act as neurophysiological interventions — influencing nervous system tone, promoting regulation, and supporting resilience — rather than simply “stress relief.” Bring your questions, experiences, and curiosity as we explore practical ways to integrate these tools into your daily practice and personal self-care and enhance your ability to make key referrals that have a strong impact on your clients’ perinatal outcomes.

Birth Workers: Managing Sleep & Circadian Disruption with Herbal Medicine
Birth Day Presence (via Zoom) Instructor: Lena DeGloma, MS, LMT, CD, CLC, CCCE
How does being up all night for a birth alter your body’s secretion of cortisol? Why is it more difficult to get good “catch up” sleep following a birth if you get home during the day? How does eating in the middle of the night at a birth affect your blood sugar metabolism, digestion, and your sleep cycle the following night? In this workshop we will explore the link between “chronodisruption” (or the misalignment between your body’s circadian timing system and your sleep/behavior caused by night work) and diverse health effects including impact on the sleep-wake cycle, the immune system, the chronic stress response and the neuroendocrine system, digestion and the “gut clock”, and metabolism & blood sugar balance. We will cover herbal, nutritional, and practical lifestyle adjustments to mitigate the long-term health impacts of chronodisruption caused by birth work and help your body realign with its natural circadian rhythms.
